Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement
I am a white, mostly pansexual, non-binary, and middle class person with invisible disabilities and this identity means that I, like all of us, have our own unique experience of privilege and oppression. This interaction of identities is called “intersectionality,” and means that I won’t know exactly what it is like to walk in any of my clients’ shoes.
I honor the experiences of historically marginalized communities, and am humbled to provide trauma-informed and culturally competent services to those from historically marginalized communities whose identities I don’t share, including but not limited to, BIPOC, those in the LGBTQIA community, those who are disabled, and those in lower socio-economic statuses. As a white, middle class person, there are a multitude of lived experiences shared by people in historically marginalized communities that I have not endured and I experience privilege as a result. I believe that confronting my privilege is a lifelong journey, and strive to show up as an ally to those in marginalized communities with whom I do not share an identity.
