What is Intimate Gender Identity Therapy?
Working with transgender and gender expansive individuals is one of my greatest passions. As an agender therapist, I bring both lived experience and deep clinical commitment to this work. I’ve spent years supporting people across the gender spectrum in a variety of settings-including as a pro bono therapist at the (now-closed) Gender Identity Center of Colorado and as a provider in community mental health.
You might be exploring your gender identity, seeking support letters for hormone therapy or gender-affirming surgery, or navigating transition-related challenges. You might be a parent, partner, or loved one looking to better support someone in your life. You might be an adolescent facing bullying, suicidal thoughts, or self-harm related to your identity. Or, you might simply want a therapist who understands your gender identity without making it the focus of your care.
I have extensive experience working with transgender and gender expansive queer youth, who often face unique challenges at the intersection of identity, safety, and mental health. Young clients in my practice navigate everything from social transition and coming out, to discrimination at school or within peer groups. I provide a supportive, affirming space for youth to build confidence, reduce distress, and feel safe being fully themselves.
I also support parents, caregivers, and other family members in understanding and affirming their loved one’s gender identity. Whether your family is new to these conversations or struggling to navigate a transition, I help create space for growth, connection, and healing. My goal is to help families stay in relationship while supporting each person’s authenticity.
For those seeking gender‑affirming medical care, I provide individualized assessments and letters of support for hormone therapy, puberty blockers, and gender-affirming surgeries. My letters are aligned with WPATH Standards of Care and written with clarity and care, often in collaboration with medical providers. I know how important timely access to care can be—and I approach this process with respect and affirmation, not gatekeeping.
I’m also proud to have authored the “Children” section of AAMFT’s Gender‑Affirming Care: Guidelines for Working Systemically with Transgender, Nonbinary, and Gender Expansive Clients, published by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. These guidelines offer systemic, community-rooted approaches to working with gender-expansive children and families.
