How Psychotherapy Works
Psychotherapy offers a space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and relationships with the support of a trained, affirming therapist. Together, we identify patterns, build insight, and develop tools that help you move toward your goals. The process is collaborative-you bring your lived experience, and I bring my clinical knowledge and care.

What to Expect
In our first session, we’ll complete an intake so we can get to know each other and begin identifying your goals. After that, we’ll collaborate on a treatment plan that reflects your values, needs, and identities. From there, we’ll begin the real work-deepening self-understanding, practicing new skills, and creating meaningful change together.
I offer a free 15-minute phone or video consultation so we can talk briefly about your needs and see if we’re a good fit. If you decide to move forward, we’ll schedule an intake session to begin your therapy journey. If you’re using Kaiser insurance, I’ll verify your benefits before we start treatment so you know exactly what to expect.
Your initial intake session lasts up to 60 minutes and gives us time to explore your history, goals, and what brings you to therapy. Ongoing sessions are typically 50 minutes each. Together, we’ll create a plan to determine the frequency of sessions based on your needs, availability, and goals. Sessions are available both in-person at my Denver office and virtually for clients anywhere in Colorado. Please note: Kaiser clients are typically required to attend in-person sessions under current policy-while I sometimes offer flexibility, this is handled on a case-by-case basis.
After the intake and treatment plan are completed, we begin the real work of therapy. The treatment plan acts as a roadmap, guiding our work while leaving room for flexibility. At the start of each session, I’ll review notes from our previous conversation to see if there’s anything to follow up on-but ultimately, you get to decide what we focus on that day.
I offer both in-person and telehealth appointments to meet the needs of my clients. Telehealth sessions are conducted through SimplePractice, a secure and HIPAA-compliant platform. Please note that clients must be physically located in Colorado during telehealth sessions, as I am only licensed to practice in this state. While most clients can choose between in-person and virtual sessions, Kaiser insurance plans typically require in-person appointments-though I sometimes offer flexibility depending on the situation.
What you share in therapy stays private-confidentiality is a core part of the therapeutic relationship. There are a few legally required exceptions, such as concerns about immediate safety or child abuse, and I’ll always explain those clearly. For children and teens, my general policy is not to share information with parents unless there’s a safety concern. I work collaboratively with young clients to decide what they’re comfortable sharing-some want their parents to know everything, some want full privacy, and I support either approach. I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform called SimplePractice to manage all clinical records, including session notes, intake forms, and billing. If you attend virtual sessions, they’ll also take place through SimplePractice’s secure telehealth system, which ensures a confidential and encrypted connection. This system helps protect your privacy while keeping everything organized in one place.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and identity-affirming. I center the lived experiences of my clients-especially those in queer, trans, neurodiverse, and diverse family communities-and meet each person where they are with compassion, clarity, and clinical skill. I don’t believe therapy should pathologize difference; instead, I honor it. I create a space where people feel seen not just as individuals, but as members of complex systems that shape their mental health. I integrate evidence-based practices with a trauma-informed, systemic lens, and I prioritize relationships-between client and therapist, within families, and across the broader web of identity, culture, and lived experience. I’m also the creator of the Queer Adjusted Systemic Lens, a clinical model designed to address the limitations of traditional family therapy when working with queer clients and their loved ones.
I accept Kaiser insurance and work with a third-party biller, Westside Behavioral Care, who verifies your benefits and handles billing directly with Kaiser. For clients paying out of pocket, my self-pay rate is $150 per session. If you’re making payments directly to me, all billing is handled through SimplePractice, my secure and HIPAA-compliant electronic records system. All clients are asked to keep an active credit card on file for session fees, copays, and any late cancellation or no-show fees. I can also provide superbills for clients wishing to seek reimbursement from other insurance providers, though I can’t guarantee that your plan will accept them.

From there, you’ll receive appointment reminders, any required paperwork, and a secure telehealth link if you’re meeting with me online. Reminders are provided as a courtesy for your convenience, but I recommend not relying on them entirely-while rare, delays or errors in delivery can occur. Clients are ultimately responsible for keeping track of their scheduled appointments, which are always viewable through the client portal.
