What is Therapy For Nerds?
Sometimes it just feels easier to open up to a therapist who shares your interests—and I totally get that. As a nerd myself, I know that fandoms and shared passions can be a great way to break the ice, especially if you’re feeling nervous about starting therapy. That’s exactly why I offer therapy for nerds!
Clients have told me they feel more at ease when they can connect with me through the things they love. Whether it’s Good Omens, Steven Universe, Studio Ghibli, Star Wars, anime, or the Marvel Cinematic Universe-these are some of my personal favorites, and I love weaving them into our work together. I also welcome conversations about video games, fanfiction, cosplay, LARPing, and convention culture. These interests can be deeply meaningful and often connect to identity, values, and community.
Being part of fandom can be a huge source of joy-but it can also come with its own unique stressors. You might be struggling after falling out of a long-time hyperfixation, or you might be feeling overwhelmed by a current one that feels all-encompassing and hard to manage. Maybe you’re feeling disconnected from a community that once felt like home, or dealing with the emotional fallout of conflicts with friends in fandom spaces. Sometimes the online spaces you once loved can become overwhelming or even toxic. These experiences are real, and they can bring up grief, identity questions, or feelings of isolation. In therapy, we can make space for those parts of your experience too.
Therapy can be serious work, but it doesn’t have to be stiff or impersonal. If fandom is part of how you make sense of the world, how you heal, or how you find joy-you deserve a therapist who gets that. You can bring your whole self here, no explanation required.
